The grassfire that started Sunday afternoon along State Highway 71 and spread into McKinney Roughs Nature Park was almost fully contained as of Tuesday morning.
The fire has burned at least 225 acres. About 70 percent of the acreage is believed to be part of LCRA’s McKinney Roughs Nature Park.
Since the initial evacuation of the area Sunday, park staff and emergency response personnel are the only people allowed in the park. LCRA staff also is coordinating with Hyatt Lost Pines to prevent Hyatt visitors from entering the park.
No LCRA employees have been hurt, but three firefighters have sustained minor injuries in the fire.
After emergency personnel say it is safe for visitors to enter the park, it will take a couple of days to repair trails for hikers and horses. Meanwhile, the park will remain closed to the public and LCRA employees until further notice.
