The main entrance of McKinney Roughs Nature Park continues to be closed as a result of the June fires as fire recovery efforts are underway. However, the west entrance, one mile from Highway 71 down Pope Bend Road, continues to be open from 8 am to 8 pm for hikers and trail riders. Two trail entrances to the east side of the park from Coyote Trail are barricaded and entry is prohibited.
There is no authorized access to the Colorado River from the west entrance. Water is available for horses and hikers at the Trailhead and at one location on Coyote Trail. We expect the 4th of July holiday to be busy - if the west parking lot gets too full, we will temporarily close it until spaces become available.
Park visitors are asked to sign in and sign out for safety and put their entrance fee in the honor box. Have a safe holiday.
