BASTROP – LCRA has repaired a weekend sewage spill at Camp Swift Regional Wastewater System outside of Bastrop that affected portions of Piney Creek from one-fourth mile downstream of Cool Water Drive to one-fourth mile upstream of FM 1441.
The spill at the plant, at 101 Cool Water Dr.ive, was caused by an equipment malfunction that allowed the plant to fill and overflow. The spill is believed to have begun on Sunday, Sept. 16, after 3 p.m. and ended on Monday, Sept. 17, at 7 a.m. An estimated 123,000 gallons of sewage spilled into Piney Creek.
LCRA is notifying the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and local officials of the spill.
Any private well owners in the affected area should boil their drinking water for the next three days as a precautionary measure. Drinking water from the local municipal system has not been affected. Residents should avoid swimming in the affected area of Piney Creek.
In addition to repairs LCRA made to stop the spill, employees continue to monitor the conditions in Piney Creek and proper functioning of equipment.
