Extreme to exceptional drought conditions remain in place across much of the eastern Hill Country, Central Texas and the middle Texas coast. The May weather pattern was disappointing for rainfall, as most locations received well below normal rainfall in what should have been the wettest period of the year. Totals were generally around an inch, with some spots only between .5 and 1 inch. Looking at it another way, rainfall was generally about 25 percent of normal. Year to date, rainfall has generally been between 4 and 8 inches below normal, although parts of the northern and western Hill Country have received near normal to slightly above normal rain.
