LCRA Security Officers are stationed at most LCRA sites — from Buchanan Dam near Burnet to the Fayette Power Project in La Grange — to assist the public and protect employees, property and visitors.

LCRA Security Officers are trained to surpass the Level III security certification by the Texas Security Bureau, which regulates the private security industry in Texas. This certification allows the security personnel to carry firearms on LCRA property, but the ongoing extensive training beyond this certification enables LCRA Security Personnel to provide a level of service that is rare to the industry.

LCRA Security Officers must also successfully complete the requirements for a Nationally Registered Emergency Care Attendant, then; meet the Austin/Travis County Medical Director’s Clinical Operational Guidelines. This allows them to act as first responders during medical emergencies and to coordinate medical rescues and responses.

The essential functions of the LCRA Security Officer are to provide armed patrols of assigned facilities to detect and prevent crime; respond to medical emergencies; provide public safety and courtesy services;  respond to alarm calls; report security violations and equipment failures and other security related situations; operate electronic security equipment including CCTV, card access systems, and burglary alarm systems; provide customer and public assistance; coordinate with other agencies in conducting investigations and perform special assignments to protect life and property.  Officers are cross-trained for multiple sites.

Another integral part of the LCRA Security Department is the Security Technology group. This group is made up of highly skilled and experienced Security Technicians who perform site assessments, make recommendations, implement electronic security systems and quickly provide maintenance as needed. As a result, all LCRA facilities can be monitored 24/7.
