LCRA and CREZFind out more about Competitive Renewable Energy Zones (CREZ) in West Texas and the Panhandle and how the Public Utility Commission of Texas plans to use them to transfer wind-generated electricity and other power to the state's population centers. These and other CREZ-related projects will significantly increase Texas' current electric transmission capacity for wind power. In May LCRA Transmission Services Corporation held 10 public open houses to explain some of the CREZ projects it will build and to seek public input. About 1,900 people signed in at the meetings. Central Texas DroughtExtreme to exceptional drought conditions remain in place across much of the eastern Hill Country, Central Texas and the middle Texas coast. The May weather pattern was disappointing for rainfall, as most locations received well below normal rainfall in what should have been the wettest period of the year. Totals were generally around an inch, with some spots only between .5 and 1 inch. Looking at it another way, rainfall was generally about 25 percent of normal. Year to date, rainfall has generally been between 4 and 8 inches below normal, although parts of the northern and western Hill Country have received near normal to slightly above normal rain.
